After a year of intense work, the SENEGAL SECTION of the web page is online, thanks to the project "From testimony to protagonism: the mothers of migrants missing in the Mediterraneanpromoting rights and income-generating activities in Mali and Senegal” created by the associations AbarekàNandree ODV, Todo Cambia and Énergie pour les Droits de l'Homme Sénégal and financed by Otto per Mille of the Waldensian Church. The section contains new stories of hope and pain, stories that arise from the intertwining of poverty, globalization, social injustice but also resilience, the desire for redemption and the search for truthand justice.
These are stories of people who hoped to be able to improve their own living conditions and that of their loved ones by crossing the African borders to arrive in Europe but who never reached Europe due to the restrictive and security policies that prevented their safe and regular channels of entry. These are stories of entire families, who live todayin a psychological, social and legal limbo. They are stories ofwomen who have found themselves living without economic support and for whom it is therefore a priority to rebuild autonomy for themselves and their families through income-generating activities.
Photos and video interviews we constructed in Senegal are the result of a year of work, carried out bythepartnersand two other local entities, AJIRAP (Association des jeunes rapatriés) and Boza FII with a group of women activein Thiaroye Sur-Mer, in Lebou (fishermen's people) village with access to the sea, belonging to the District of Pikinecity (in theDakar department). These women, thanks to the financial support of the project, were able to start marketing and of artisanal karkadè, baobab, ginger, tamarind and mint juices, taking the first steps towards a pathto economic independence. Their name choicehencetheir identity, "Takku-Liguey", represents the strength of shared work, mobilization for work and for the cause uniting them.
At the same time, thanks to awareness-raising activities they began their journey of mobilization to pursue truth and justice regarding the fate of their loved ones. In this journey, knowing the stories of Algerian, Tunisian and Moroccan families, as well as Malian ones - a country which will soon also have a section on the site - has allowed us to connect their pain to that of other families, recognizing its geopolitical matrix.
This section is a way to amplify the voice of Senegalese families within European society to remember that people who migrate ARE HUMAN LIVES AND NOT NUMBERS!
Continue to follow us because the MALI SECTION will soon be online too!
